An educational Roots Revival with Contemporary concepts
Popularizing any traditional musical style (hundreds of styles are available) from all countries of the European Continent and from the Portuguese, Spanish and English Speaking Countries (pieces and songs already in the public domain), adapted to our 101 musical specialties and 13 practical subjects, using standardized sheet music with common musical forms and structures, reproduced for the Int. Conservatory Collections.
The homogenized pop has had its fans in most countries in the world, but many of these nations have created their own indigenous pop out of their folk music.

The Academy's Secretariat holds instruments of professional quality for producing video-presentations and tutorials. The e-Library, Archive Collection and Mini-Library, located in the Secretariat, holds more than 1,750,000 titles including books, e-books, music manuscripts, journals, e-journals, audio and video recordings and academic articles – from whose 99,8% are the Academy’s own editions and titles.

We publish 14 practitioner-type journal editions each year for our Members and Fellows of the 6 sections - these are the "Royal" Free Academy of PMC (The Academy), Interactive Conservatory (an independent authority for training and educating amateur and professional musicians of contemporary and popular music) and 6 Scientific Societies; and for the National Library of Portugal.

ABOUT US - ACERCA DE NÓS

-GOALS & STATUTES-
Academia Livre de PMC - Conservatório Interativo, or "Real" Academia Livre de Música, with the slogan "A Academia Livre de Portugal para o Avanço e Promoção da Performance Musical e da Arte e Ciência conetadas", property of Professor Carlos Alberto Viegas (UFP PostDoc), is a BNP Partner organization under a RNOD National Agreement (The National Register of Digital Objects, which publishes the official list of the Nation's organisations that are worthy of this preservation), acting as a musical authority in Portugal with a National and European scope dedicated and devoted to the advancement and research of Portuguese, Brazilian, Cakewalk and Traditional Jazz music, and many musical Fusions and musical Specialties, including Avangard music, Experimentalism and musical Abstractionism within the field of Contemporary Music. The Academy - CI works around the phylosophy that "MUSIC comes 1st. It is the Melody." independently of the musical style in question, field or other related issues, by using the best sight-reading skills, chart-reading for solo improvisation, extemporisation and impromptu as well as standardized song structures, from the Intermediate level Service Musician up to the Higher Advanced level Concert Musician. It is a goverment protected Publishing and Musical individual entity (with option of collectivity name registration) for musicians of string, wind, brass and traditional Bands of Music/Ensembles and performers of plucked string instruments, as well as music journal readers, with the 2 IGAC registered artistic names (used for bands of music/ensembles - according to IGAC Regulations and DL 143/2014, 26 setembro) of Academia Livre de PMC - Conservatório Interativo@™ (organização a funcionar a partir do Secretariado como Ensemble Conservatório | Ensemble Conservatory - a entidade musical instituidora do C.N.: ALPMC - CI com as 6 sociedades científicas (secções) [14 journals-ISSN & e-journals-eISSN]) with the General-Inspection of Cultural Activities (an IGAC public service used for the name registration of Bands/Ensembles of Music; of string, wind, brass or others - 'Bandas/Ensembles de Música'; de cordas, sopros, metais ou outras) of the Ministry of Culture, and it was founded in April 2011 and established with its statutory regulations (for constitution) published on December 2019 (with Legal Deposit (DL)) by Professor Carlos Viegas (Carlos Al "Grace"), for Performers of contemporary instrumental music, based in Portugal, Europe and Brazil, and all the other Portuguese speaking countries in the world. Professor Carlos has created the Specialized higher level Course (non-degree) of Popular Music in 2012 (3 stages of education and training) with its 'external' validation (aval 'externo') at a Continuing Education Centre (an organic unit) of a Portuguese higher education institution. Degree holders (Licenciatura) or holders of equivalent academic qualifications outside the EU will split the CertALPMC-CI to study directly in the DipALPMC-CI, and upon completion they can apply for individual registration (an additional accreditation for teachers) of the specialization diploma in popular music at a teaching Council (i.e., a graduate level degree) or training accreditation Council for teachers. In Portugal it is the CCPFC, Braga. There are similar bodies in other countries for foreign graduate trainees that may accept it on the same basis. CN stands for 'Concelho Nacional' for including our 6 scientific societies, and PMC stands for Performers (or Performance) de Música Contemporânea. Portugal's ACADEMY to educate and professionally train Musicians and Music Teachers with the world's 1st Interactive Conservatory (C.I.) which is an ENSEMBLE CONSERVATORY [i.e., the ALPMC-CI - eminently practical and experimental training as the best knowledge and skills of specialist professionals should be | Ensemble Conservatório - formação eminentemente prática e experimental como todo o conhecimento de especialistas profissionais deve ser] and 6 scientific societies (6 sociedades científicas), to advance the field of contemporary music performance through research and stimulating debate among peers, in the classical music, popular music & jazz areas of performance)) - with a National Charter [i.e., Acordo Nacional] (considered of cultural and scientific interest) Entity-Publisher for the purposes of training and certifying 'Music Performers' (both amateurs and professionals), under the auspieces of the Ministry of Culture (BNP-ISSN/eISSN-ISMN, RNOD, APEL-ISBN & IGAC).
"Our national and international recognition and influence on the Music Performance must be in playing Music within the scope of all Contemporary Popular Music Performance specialties and concepts, and connecting it with the associated art and science" (Carlos Al "Grace" Viegas). Carlos Alberto F. Viegas is the composer of the Contemporary Solo Guitar and Orchestral Concerts published and owned by ALPMC-CI, called 'Academius', 'Connections', 'The Contemporary', 'The Vanguardist' (separated by Movements and Opus) and 'The Man-Symphony' I In VIII, following the composing techniques from the 4 musical scales he has developed himself: the '9-Note' scale, '10-Note' scale, '11-Note' scale (only loosing 1 note to the chromatic scale!) and the 'Contemporary Hybrid' scale, without 'breaking' the most important and advanced harmony and composition rules from both the Music of classical tradition and the modern musical styles and jazz. The agreed international Venue for each concert presentation (edition) of the Ensemble 'Conservatório Interativo' ('Homem-Sinfonia', with 'Orquestra Contemporânea Metropolitana' in virtual format - performed by Carlos Viegas, and 1 guest musician) is the Church of São José das Taipas of the Royal Fellowship of Souls of São José das Taipas, organized in conjunction with our Honorary Benefactor, Arq. José Bastos. Carlos has created 3 musical styles: the contemporary swing lundu, contradanza-fusion and the Portuguese and Lusophone hot swing. The ALPMC - CI, based in Portugal, is committed to become the international Lusophone authority for Popular Music and Contemporary Performers (both amateurs and professionals), integrating the C.I. research centre for Membership (Associate or Full Member-Candidate), professional qualification training, interactive orchestras and ensembles, and 6 practitioner-type journals for all Members, Fellows and Honorary Members (pioneering tutorial methods of music instruction and psychological methods of musical learning, and advancing the music performance to the next level (for professional and graduate level training), as well as 6 scientific societies (14 practitioner-type journal editions) for a contemporary popular music joint fellowship (non stipend). We offer accredited training in popular music within a professional qualification system with unaccompanied solo pieces at grade 8 level and beyond with improvisation charts in 73 different musical styles and 29 specialties or concepts, for solo performance with the most advanced improvisation and technical skills required for each song, chosen from repertoire lists. The Academy does NOT provide ANY undergraduate degree programme in music, nor Unit Modules part of it, delivered by its distance tutorial methods and system, in collaboration with a university or polytechnic. The ALPMC-CI musical entity provides a 3-stage professional and continuing education programme (with officially recognised 'Credit Units' - UC's in Portugal; i.e., the so called CEU's internationally) for the 'academically accredited' Qualification (only awarded to non-higher education diploma and non-degree holders) culminating with the Diploma of Specialization degree in Popular Music (408 hours total) [eligible to up to 12 automatic ECTS graduate credits for the accreditation received in the specialization degree programme - transferable to a private or public university masters degree programme] (Diploma de Especialização em Música Popular) to Full Member-Candidates. This Specialization Degree Course for 'graduates' or ordinary bachelor's (Curso Superior Especializado para 'graduados' ou licenciados) is a qualification equivalent, according to the Portuguese legislation, to a Professional or Vocational-based Masters course portion in Popular Music - Guitar (or on a similar specialized music training field) if accompanied by a 4-year Honours Bachelor Degree in Music or Music Education (Licenciatura de 4 anos, pré ou pós Bolonha) for an individual teacher's continuing education accreditation by a Teaching Council. For this official equivalency to take effect an individual accreditation from a professional body for teachers to obtain the career credits (UC's or CEU's for music or music education teachers) is required, and the ALPMC-CI Specialization degree course in Popular Music (the Diploma qualification) and its trainers (lecturers and researchers) are both accredited and highly qualified for the purpose. In Portugal the body it is the CCPFC, Braga. Our popular music programme awards automatic credit value for the continuing education unit credits (i.e., UCs) and ALPMC - CI Specialization in popular music (classical and jazz guitar, and viola braguesa) completed, which are convertible or eligible to 12 ECTS (academic graduate credits) in a masters degree programme. Continuing education unit credits can positively impact your career in several ways.
In addition to popular and avangard contemporary music, experimentalism and musical abstractionism are also valued at the "Royal" Free Academy of Contemporary Music Performers - CI (ALPMC - CI Ensemble), based in Portugal (with a RNOD National Charter to develop and publish resources and journal editions for Music Performers and Teachers). Full Members that complete the CertALPMC-CI or the DipALPMC-CI and a Professional Placement (extra curricula - for a paid musical job as a service musician or solo artist starting a professional career) may earn a Licence from the ALPMC-CI (a non-exclusive authorization to professionally use the Service Musician's kit) after completing 500 hours of verifiable CPD - an Occupational certification awarded under the authority of the ALPMC-CI National Council with official recognition for holders of the academically accredited course levels that lead to the CertALPMC-CI qualification. The occupational licence carry a privilege for musicians and music teachers, including CPD credits (Professional Development placement), which is the best 'leg-up' on the competition in terms of professional recognition. Only fully recognised organizations with validated training programmes, which is our case, may issue a licence for a professional purpose. Degree holders, on the other hand, should go directly to the Specialization course to take a professional placement and gain the same advantages.

We promote and explore the field of contemporary popular music performance in a Cycle of Musical Specialties for Jazz/Electric Guitar, Classic Guitar, Acoustic Guitar/Fado Viola, Cavaquinho (Braguinha of Madeira), Ukulele (Soprano and Concerto), Braguesa Viola (10-string guitar) (or another Portuguese Viola), Rajão of Madeira, Applied Music Theory, Traditional Percussion, Foot Percussion (Drumming) and Carlophone (Available Soon), from Folk Music to pre-30s Jazz, with members in Portugal and abroad. There are hundreds of Assessment Tests available (a total of 10 practical subjects in popular music performance and 10 practical subjects in sacred/baroque music performance, and applied music theory and sacred/classical music literacy/theory - in 3 Stages (the ALPMC-CI Levels). The C.I. provides the 1st officially approved distance tutorial and professional qualification system in the world with accredited music performance training levels (stages). The entity maintains internationally important e-library and digital archive collections of aproximately 1,750,000 music manuscript editions and audio recordings, and a mini library collection of over 1,500 books, e-books, journals and e-journals, from whose 99,8% are published by the ALPMC-CI. The Mini-Library at the Secretariat is classified with the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC). Our musical aim at C.I. is to incorporate advanced contemporary music performance concepts in folk and popular music.
The ALPMC-CI is a nationally chartered scientific academy that offers a rigorous vis-à-vis distance learning program and tutorial system (with face-to-face performance assessments) with psychology of learning evaluations for academic accredited professional certification for both amateur and professional musicians and/or private instrumental tutors. This entity (official organization) is specially addressed to citizens of Portuguese speaking countries, but also accepts other people for membership and/or an educational programme.
We are aiming to become the International Standard and Hallmark for all small band or ensemble musicians and solos performers, working in Europe and some non-European countries at our own description (i.e., Portuguese, Spanish and English speaking countries).

EDITORIAL BOARD (6 Peers)

ACADEMICS and highly regarded PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS have agreed to provide feedback on a voluntary basis (like most journals of other organizations) for practitioner research papers that are produced for abstract publication in our 6 (Six) Practitioner-type Music and Education through Music Journals. They will send a blind review for topics of submitted papers to our fellowship programme (advanced training/research). But before they are consulted the paper must pass the editor's musical orientation and editorial guidelines. Only high-quality practitioner-type papers of music performance analysis or music education evaluation will be passed to 1 member of this Editorial academical board, and, if the feedback is positive, the abstract publication will be considered in the appropriate official journal and the subsequent award of fellow by the 6 scientific societies (i.e. 6 practitioner-type journals with 14 ISSN and eISSN editions each year).

Our Practitioner-type journals examine the proposals made and successful authors become fellows (recognized specialists) in PMC with the 6 scientific societies. A certification letter of Fellow mentioning the music specialty or topic researched and published will be awarded if the work is deemed to be of good merit as a contribution to musical practice.
